July 5th
- It was another beautiful day as we left Deep Bay. We travelled 25 miles in total today. We started through the Swift Rapids lock and
stopped at the Waubic for lunch. I was
shocked at how crowded it was for a Tuesday.
We wanted to spend more time with the Waubic folks, however they were so
busy ... apparently they are down by 3 staff members. After lunch we continued our journey, first
through the Big Chute which is a very unique lock where your boat is carried
over the land on a massive cart that runs on giant tracks similar to train
tracks. We then went through the Port
Severn lock and traveled to Beausoleil
Island in Georgian Bay and anchored at Finger Point.
July 6th – We are
experiencing a heat wave and it sounds like it’s going to get hotter! Today we
parked our boat at the Penetang Town Dock for the morning and returned back to
Beausoleil in the afternoon. We walked
through Penetang and learned some historical facts and most interesting to
boaters is the story about Kitchikewana which created the 30,000 islands as
well as Giant’s Tomb. Read the story in
the photo below for more info. We also visited a couple of the Penetang marinas
by dingy while we were in the area. Once we returned to Beausoleil we swam and
swam some more to keep cool. Even Maria
went swimming ... You know what that means ;)
The water temperature is 25 degrees C.
Exxxcellent!
