Beausoleil Island to Shot Gun Bay - Jul 9, 2016

July 7th – Another beautiful day, however we ran into heavy fog when we travelled 37 miles from Beausoleil Island to the Moon River in Georgian Bay.  The fog started north of Beausoleil Island and didn’t clear until we reached Wreck Island. It was smoking hot when we left Beausoleil and then it was quite cool in the fog (I had to put on a hoodie!) and then it was smoking hot again when we anchored in Shot Gun Bay. The water temperature here is 27 degrees C – the warmest water yet! We chose Shot Gun Bay since it is well protected and we are expecting thunderstorms both Friday & Saturday.

July 8th – We decided to stay put today and went for a dingy ride to Moon River Marina in Woods Bay.  We were surprised to see that Moon River Marina sold both Beer and Alcohol thus we replenished our supplies. A Gold Looper saw our flag and came up to greet us.  They’re originally from Florida and have done the loop 1 ½ times.  They love it in Georgian Bay so much that they decided to leave their boat in Penetang. We’ve heard from many other Loopers that Georgian Bay is the pinnacle of their Loop thus this is a confirmation of what we’ve heard in the past. At about 7:30pm a major thunderstorm hit us and the winds were so strong that our anchor started to slide. We had to start our engines and keep the boat stable until the storm ended.  Other boats had the same issue thus we were trying to keep our eye on everyone to ensure that we didn’t slide into anyone and that they didn’t slide into us.

July 9th – Many of the boaters in the bay decided to leave in the morning. We encountered heavy rain and could hear thunderstorms in the distance. It was a rainy and windy day thus Maria baked some bread in her bread maker and we had a lazy day. Note that the Cell signal in this bay is very poor thus we haven’t been able to post a blog entry.
