Green Turtle Bay KY to Grand Harbour Marina MS - Oct 9, 2016

Oct 6th – I apologize for sounding like a broken record but it was a hot and sunny day today.  We left Green Turtle Bay Kentucky and ran for 73 miles on the Tennessee River to Pebble Isle Marina in Tennessee.  The boat ran great … knock on wood … and we enjoyed the beautiful scenery along the Tennessee river.  The Pebble Isle marina is known for its cheap fuel and they give you free cinnamon rolls and coffee in the morning … yum!  We went for a walk to Johnsonville State Historic Park which served as a supply depot during the civil war.  Afterwards we met a few new loopers here plus we got a call from the Loopers we left a few days ago asking where we were and they said they missed us … and we miss them too!  You meet many amazing people on the Loop!

Oct 7th – Can you guess how I’m going to start this post … you’re right … It was a hot and sunny day.  We are trying to catch up with our new boater friends that we left when we encountered our motor mount issue thus we traveled 111 miles today from Pebble Isle Marina to Pickwick Lake in Tennessee.  We’ll meet up with the others tomorrow at Grand Harbor Marina which will be a short run.  As I mentioned before, the Tennessee River is beautiful and we ran at 19 mph most of the way … the engines definitely got a workout today!  We went through one lock today … the Pickwick Lock, which was great since we entered the lock immediately upon arrival.  Once we exited the lock we went another ½ mile to the anchorage … and guess what … there’s free wifi since we’re anchored beside a State Park.  This wifi is better than most of the marinas’ wifi we’ve seen thus Maria is very happy ;)  The days are getting shorter since it gets dark at about 6:30pm these days, however it still feels very much like summer.  I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving in Canada this weekend!
Oct 8th – It was a sunny, warm and windy day.  It got very windy in the Pickwick Lake anchorage last night and we slept with one eye open to ensure we didn’t let go.  In the morning we traveled to Grand Harbor Marina on Pickwick Lake in Mississippi.  When we arrived they assigned us a slip that was too narrow for us thus they put us at the gas dock until they could find us an alternate slip.  We attended a party for a Looper that crossed their wake which was well attended by many other Loopers.  The party started at Noon and went into the night …. Exxxcellent!  We also caught up with our boating buddies that we left when we ran into our motor mount issue.  They were impressed with how quickly we were able to get our issue resolved and catch up with them.

Oct 9th – It was another sunny, warm and windy day.  We plan to stay in Grand Harbor Marina for a few more days since we are a little ahead of schedule and we’re having a blast.  I did a couple of jobs on the boat and then helped Brian install a light on his flybridge.  We then went to the pool to relax and I dared Brian to go down the kiddy slide at the pool.  Of course I would have to do it too if he accepted the dare … and he did … and I did.  We then had a pot luck dinner with 4 other loopers … oh my gosh … there’s always so much food and it reminds me of our Georgian Bay boat trips with all of our Lake Simcoe friends.  By the way, I’d like to wish all of my Canadian friends and family a Happy Thanksgiving!  Hopefully everyone got their fill of turkey and all the fixings!

  1. Happy Thanksgiving Guys. Dave and Michelle and their new puppy Lexi came over and celebrated with Steve, Mitch, Kyle, Lucy and myself. Steve was on call and got called into work, so we watched Dead Pool while we waited for him to get home and have dinner. Kyle had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled on Friday so it was mostly mashed potatoes and creamed corn for him. Actually he is doing really well and managed to eat tiny little bites of turkey and a cupcake for dessert. Glad you are having such a fantastic trip. We all enjoy your posts.
