May 13th – It was a cool rainy day with
low winds and chance of thunderstorms.
We pulled up our anchor from Minim Creek early this morning to travel 43
miles north to Myrtle Beach South Carolina where we pulled into Osprey
Marina. We bought diesel for less than
$2 a gallon which is the cheapest we’ve seen so far on this trip. The last few months I’ve been pumping my own
diesel and performing my own pumpouts but this is the first time in a long time
that the dock hands did all the work for us … it reminds me of the services we
get in my neck of the woods in Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay in Canada. The slip was a fair distance from the office
thus they provided us with a complimentary golf cart to get to and from the
marina office and facilities. It’s a
very isolated marina, however the people here are really friendly and helpful
and the gift bag had all kinds of goodies.
During the day a little bird got trapped in our flybridge. Maria quickly got her camera to take a
picture before I rescued it. It rained
hard for most of the afternoon thus we decided to watch a movie … it’s been a
while since we’ve watched TV.
May 14th – Happy
Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there!
It was a warm sunny day with low winds.
We left our Myrtle Beach Marina and headed 66 miles north to Southport
North Carolina and got a slip at Southport Marina. On our way we had to pass through a spot
called Rockpile which we heard so much about however it was a non-event. Maria and I walked into town and went for her
Mother’s Day dinner at a place called Provision Co and afterwards we grabbed
some ice cream at a spot across the street and went for a walk along the
waterfront. We’re within spitting
distance of Cape Fear river which we will be crossing tomorrow. Our view as we were leaving Charleston SC |
