Beaufort South Carolina to Charleston South Carolina – May 11, 2017

May 9th – It was a warm sunny day with low winds.  We pulled up our anchor from Cowan Creek and headed to a mooring ball in the Downtown Marina in Beaufort South Carolina.  We’ve seen a large number of dolphins in both Georgia and South Carolina which is cool … however when they jump they splash the boat with salt water which is not so cool … LOL!  It’s time for an oil change and we were hoping to borrow the marina’s courtesy car to go to Walmart to buy some oil, however they said it was too far for the 1 hour limit for the car thus we walked there.  It was 3.5 miles and we wanted to get some exercise but it was a long walk.  We then grabbed an UBER back with a bunch of heavy stuff including oil, water and beer.  We caught up with Loopers Jeff and Joy from “Tidings of Joy” and they invited us over for cocktails on their boat.  We had a great time with them catching up … we can’t believe that we haven’t seen them since the AGLCA Fall 2016 Rendezvous.

May 10th – It was a hot sunny day with low winds.  I got up early this morning to change the oil in my engines including the oil and crankcase filters.  After I completed this job we went to shore by dingy to dispose of the old oil and I had a quick shore shower.  Maria and I went for a walk along the Beaufort waterfront boardwalk and then we headed back to the boat.  We disconnected the boat from our mooring ball and headed 48 miles north along the ICW to Church Creek Anchorage in South Carolina.  This is the anchorage where Jeff and Joy travelled to however we didn’t connect with them today since we arrived late in the day and had to cook dinner plus I was tired and sore from dealing with the oil changes and lugging all the required new and old oil around.  As we finished dinner the noseeums came out … darn … I thought we have seen the last of them! …it’s time to hide away in the cabin.
May 11th – It was an extremely hot sunny day with low winds.  We got up extra early this morning to pull up anchor from our Church Creek anchorage to head 20 miles north to Charleston South Carolina.  On our way Maria tried to book a slip at the City Marina however it has been booked solid for 2 weeks and there’s a waiting list … darn!  We were lucky enough to find a slip at Ashley Marina which is close by and it was great that they had a shuttle that brought us to and from the downtown core at our request.  When we arrived at the marina I washed the salt off the boat and then we headed for the downtown area and walked for hours.  We stopped along the way to cool off in one of the fountains they have close to the waterfront …. Exxxcellent!  When we were all tired out we stopped in a pub that had a great happy hour with half price wings and loaded nachos with pull pork and a great price on tall boy beers.  We finally got back to the boat and it was so nice to get into the air conditioning and give our feet a rest!
